It’s funny how life sometimes pushes us to pause and savor its simple joys. Just the other day, I decided to leave my work unfinished and hit the lake with my paddleboard for the first time in two years. Yes, you heard it right—I live on a lake, and it took me that long to get back out there! But this time was extra special because it was also my first time paddling with a dog on the front of the board.

Now, I had my phone ready to capture this momentous occasion, but something inside me whispered, “Maybe it’s best to leave it behind; your balance might not be what it used to be.” So, I left my phone with my shoes on the dock. And boy, was that a good call! At one point, I turned to say hi to a dog on another dock, took a few unsteady steps backward, and splash—into the water I went!

The cool, refreshing plunge was just what I needed, a perfect way to spend an hour before facing my computer or tackling house chores. And yes, I was really glad my new phone wasn’t with me. But the adventure didn’t end there.

Fast forward a few days later, and I found myself frantically searching for my glasses. I couldn’t find them anywhere! After three days of searching, a thought struck me—I remembered taking a selfie before heading out on the paddleboard. Lo and behold, there they were, perched on my face in the photo. I never wear my glasses while paddleboarding, but this time I did. And if you read my post, you know what happened next: they are now resting comfortably at the bottom of Lake Minnewawa.

Life has a way of throwing these little curveballs at us, and it’s easy to get frustrated or upset. But here’s the thing: we can choose to see these moments as part of the adventure. Sure, I lost my glasses, but I also had a blast paddleboarding, got a refreshing dip in the lake, and have a funny story to tell. Old glasses have come to the rescue, even if they’re a bit different in prescription, and new ones are on the way. They might not arrive before my flight to Utah, but that’s okay.

The key is to roll with the punches and find the humor in these situations. Life is full of unexpected twists, and how we react to them makes all the difference. So, whether you’re falling off a paddleboard or misplacing your glasses, remember to laugh, learn, and look for the silver lining.

Every mishap is just another part of the adventure. Let’s embrace these moments and keep paddling forward with a smile.
